Music Book Copyright Application

Here's what users say

"After years of battling to obtain the appropriate Copyright Agreements as we assembled our collection of hymns using a manual system, Spreadsheetnow have automated the whole process.  This is run by our own team and uses our existing PC’s – no special new skills despite our early reservations. The software has friendly easy to use pages which Spreadsheetnow developed further for us, tailor-making the package to obtain a perfect fit to overcome even our unexpected problems.
This has transformed our work and saved us incalculable amounts of time and money. I thoroughly commend the software and the detailed and careful support provided by Spreadsheetnow.com"

About the application

This specialist application (written in Microsoft Access) was developed to address a particular need. If you are a music book publisher in the process of attempting to publish or republish a music book, from traditional hymn books to compilation sheet music for bands, then you will need to confront the very complex process of gaining copyright licences for the individual songs involved. In most cases at least two copyrights are required for each title, one for the music copyright and another for the lyrics copyright. In some cases an arrangement copyright might also be required. All three types of copyright for each title can be held by different copyright holders and thus a simple application for copyright for one title may involve three separate applications, licences and copyright credit line alterations.

This database was developed specifically to address these complex issues and allows the user to not only apply for these licences but also to record the sequence of application right through to receipt of licence and payment of same.

Here are examples of the two main record areas: a. A Copyright Holders Record, and b. An Individual Song record.

When confronted with the need to reprint a hymn book I considered soldiering on with the laborious manual system of copyright clearance that we have always used. The idea that this could be largely automated was presented by the team at Spreadsheetnow - and I was impressed enough to “give it a go”. The results have transformed the way we work and drastically reduced the administration time. We now have an automated email system with all aspects of copyright permissions covered. I understand this uses an Access database - all I can say is that we have a series of easily understood pages which allow us to manipulate the basic lists as we need. A great resource for now and the future.
